Tip of the Week: Weight TrainingShareMay 4 , 2008 Weight training is a great way to increase your swimming speed and break through a barrier or swimming time that you’ve been stuck at for awhile. The added strength allows you to pull through the water with greater force, and be able to sustain that force for a longer period of time. Any weight training program is better than none. Though for triathletes, greater repetitions and exercises involving lifting body weight (squats, pull-ups, push-ups, squat jumps, lunges and crunches) work great and don’t need a gym membership to do. It’s best to do most of your weight training in the off-season, as it gets tough to fit it into all of your cycling and running workouts in the summer. Happy training!
