Toe Placement while Swimming Freestyle
When you are swimming freestyle, you always want your toes pointing straight behind you, and never towards the bottom of the pool. As you are kicking down, you want to relax the calf muscle as much as possible. This allows the water to push on the foot which keeps the toes pointed. As you kick up, you want to use the calf muscle as necessary to keep the toes pointed.
