Swimming WorkoutDate: May 20, 2009 Distance: 3,500 LCM (Long Course Meters) Main Set 1: 3 x 200 meter kick with board on 5:00 Times: 3:25 / 3:20 / 3:15 Main Set 2:10 x 200 meter swim on 4:00 - 3 free, 2 zoomer, 2 times thru Times free Times: 2:21 / 2:22 / 2:23 / 2:25 / 2:27 / 2:28 Zoomer Times: 2:22 / 2:21 / 2:23 / 2:21 Notes: Ow. This set really took a toll. My left leg cramped up in the middle of the kick set (recurring problem, my left leg has had cramping problems since I raced in Hawaii in 2003). After that it was a slow and painful experience. I am a legs-dominant swimmer. And so with no kick my arms were left on their own to keep me afloat, which of course they failed miserably at. I was lucky my shoulder didn't crunch on me. It was real close to getting injured again. Swimming long course is very unforgiving unless you are physically able. The only thing that saved me was that the pool closed down early (we were originally supposed to do 14-200s, but only got done 10). That was good, as my last couple freestyle repeats weren't much more than modified dog-paddle anyways. Thompson found the set about as tough as I did. It didn't help that we were surrounded by people and swimming through countless waves. I guess it is all good preparation for open-water swimming! |
