Swimming WorkoutDate: April 29, 2009 Distance: 3,000 Long Course Meters Main Set: 40 x 50meter on 2:00, with ez100 after ever 10, all-out sprints Each set of 10 alternating: Notes: I was pretty amazed with the times since we went through such a hard workout yesterday. Thompson and I were both pretty wiped as this set was a tough go from the start. I had a weird headache on the right side of my head (started at the end of yesterday's workout). It got really bad when I did flip turns underwater and I couldn't tell what end was up. Fortunately we were doing 50s in a long course pool and so flip turns were not necessary. The training is going through a real tough phase right now. We're trying to get Thompson to the point where swimming comes automatically; requiring a lot of swimming at a very high effort. The hope is he will remember the movements of swimming so that it repeats in his head over and over again, just like a day at the roller coaster park. It's a little risky because his ability to sustain effort over 4,000meters won't help him get faster over 1,500 meters. So we're training more mental memory and less physical development. The plan is to stick to this longer stuff for a little while longer, then switch back to the shorter stuff (sets in the 3,000meter range instead of 4,000+) and see if the shorter stuff gets faster or not. Hopefully, he will get faster in a hurry. This long stuff really wears me out! |
