Tip of the Week: Training in a Hotel Pool

December 15 , 2008

Ever find yourself stuck on the road in a never-ending business trip with nowhere to swim but those miniscule 12 yard hotel/motel pools?  You could try and swim up and down that pool and drive yourself crazy with flip turns.  Or, you could set yourself up to swim in one place.  Just bring along a bungee cord and tie it to a belt around your waist.  A wader belt works just fine.  If you don’t like building it yourself there are some stationary swim devices out there that are more comfortable and do the same thing.  I have personally used a Tyrfit belt and it works quite well.

In the pool, tie the other end of the bungee cord to some solid object like the handle on the pool exit ladder or anything else that won’t go anywhere if you pull on it.  Then you can swim against the bungee cord to your heart’s content.  You won’t go anywhere fast, but it will hurt a ton and keep you in good swimming form.
